Using email addresses with Gmail

This guide will show you how to send and receive mail using your personal email address from within Google's Gmail.

  1. Navigate to and sign in with your existing Gmail account.
  2. Once signed in and viewing your inbox, find the gear icon in the upper right and click on it
  3. Select "settings" from the drop down menu
  4. Click on the "accounts" tab
  5. In the middle, under "check mail using POP3" select the option "Add a POP3 mail account you own"
  6. For the email address, enter the complete email, e.g.
  7. Click next
  8. On the next screen, enter your username in the form "" so if your email address is, enter "" (without the quotes)
  9. Enter the password you were provided
  10. Enter as the POP server. If your domain is, enter
  11. Check the box "label incoming messages" and use the email address your adding as the label. This helps with organization.
  12. Click "Add Account"
  13. If the settings are correct, you'll be given an option to validate the email address for sending mail. Click the button to send an email to your email address. Once it reaches your inbox, click the link to validate.
Once this process is complete, Gmail will periodically check your email address for new mail. New mail will not be pulled automatically. To send mail from your personal address, simply create a new message as usual and select the email address you wish to send with from the "from" drop down menu.
